Nice work. So, motion activated, I assume the lights come on when someone is walking by to draw attention? Does it play a recording as well, maybe some audio talking about the ship etc???

Re: World's first Solar Powered Motion Activated Donation Box
Thanks All, this one is powder coated and plated.
The way I figured it you can't get someone to put money into a donation box unless you can get them to the box, everyone like bling.
It did get me thinking and my next donation box will be more like a game. It will be similar to those Pachinko games but with coins instead of balls.
The coins drop in from the top and the player can turn knobs to catch and redirect the coin into one of 4 slots in the bottom an optical switch will see the coin fall and play a sound from say the 16 inch guns going off another slot might have 40mm gun sounds. It will also light up red LED's from behind that are synced with the sound, I think kids will love this game.
I plan to use a motion sensor so when a guest approaches the game it will play this sound.

I started this prototype board to help me learn the physics of the coin fall. I still have a lot to figure out but will report back when I get farther along.

Thanks Shane, it's funny you mention that, I also had the idea of sound effects but it ran down the battery too quickly.Shane Warnick wrote:Nice work. Do you have any pics from the build process? It would be great to see them.
How did you do the smooth bends?

Sorry Mike no pics of the build I changed my design a few time so they might be confusing anyway.whiskeymike wrote:Do you have any pics from the build process? It would be great to see them.
How did you do the smooth bends?
I used 18g cold rolled steel so I could bend it by hand. It's a little thinner then I like to use because it dings a little to easy for an outside hands on piece. I started at the top and used spring clams and vice grips to hold the sides down and just tack weld and bend as I go down the sides making sure to keep the overhang on the sides even.
Tnbndr this is the IR motion detector I used it's not outdoor rated so I mounted it inside and cut a hole in the side for the sensor to stick out of I sealed it all with silicone and used a spray on silicone to keep the connections dry.tnbndr wrote:Nice work.!!!

The LED's are waterproof strip lights with adhesive backing they where left over from another project and can't remember where i got them.

Thanks, being a volunteer I get payed by being involved with a piece of American history but also it is quite an honor for me that they think enough of my work to display it on board I also enjoy the fact that my work will be viewed by hundreds of thousands of people every year.MadMetal2000 wrote:WOW!!! This was installed this morning before opening and by the end of the day the box had $22 in it.
