Top side Dross?

Post by Largemouthlou »

This cut was done using the 40 shielded mechanical and prope shield. Used the hyperther setting right out of the book.
1250 Hypertherm T80 m torch.

Why is there dross on top on the particular sides?
Also how do others with down draft tables cut 1/8" aluminum with out it warping.. cut sone diamond plate and flat plate 14" X 20" with lettering inside and the diamond plate especially warped bad enough to throw the THC out of wack and rase the head way up so it couldn't cut.

Here is the dross picturem there was none on the bottom side cut quality was decent, this is .080 material here

Thanks for the help Jim and gang..

Top dross indicates that the torch to work distance was too high....a secondary reult of the torch being too high is warpage.

Make sure the machine shield is used, and that the cut height is .060". If you are using an arc voltage height control....adjust the voltage until the height is .060".
