PPLLC, MACH3 CandCNC Gantry slave motor lag

Post by mechanicalmongoose20 »

So I got my new set-up running. 5x10 PPLLC gantry direct drive, Mach3 and CandCNC 620-4 Bladerunner DTHCIV ether cut. Love everything so far, did some basic cutting. I have noticed I get a bit of slop, lag, racking...whatever you want to call it, on my gantry. It seems to be on the start of a cut like the motors arent 100% synced right away. But once in a cut, it seems to be ok.

I read something about adding home switches helping this, like it will register the direction change difference and keep that in the control. All my motor specs are correct and 1" is 1" and my gear rack mesh is kosher.

I have noticed that sometimes I can slightly move one side while the motors are on.Like its not locked in position but the other side is rock solid.

I'm sure it's something small. Any ideas?

No power to that motor stepper will lock up with power on if you can turn the motor it is not powered. Have you checked the setscrew for the drive gear connection motor may be lock up but slipping gear.

I'd like to say I'd never overlook something like that, but I see somethings I do on a daily basis. HAHA. I'll double check that and my connections.

Yea lets pretend this never happened. Motor connections were good. Motor mount was tight.......forgot to tighten the set screw on the gear. Gaaahhhh!!! Went through and nut and bolted the whole gantry, added loctite to the gears as well.
