The ICEBREAKER
It's big, It's cool, It will be a Landmark......
What is it ? Follow the Transformation/Makeover of this
boat to appear as an Old Steamliner Paddelboat

Re: The ICEBREAKER
The Boat was Dead...waiting for the torch
Not today....not on my watch......
The Name Is: ICEBREAKER
The whole banner consist of five sections, joined by welding.
The overall size it 16 feet x 3 feet.
The Boat is now used as an Ice Cream Parlor
at Bush's Marina, Port Severn, Ontario, Canada
right next to Lock 45 of the Trent-Severn Waterway
The next step is the design and fabrication of the smoke-stacks

Re: The ICEBREAKER
I have finished the fabrication of the smoke stack mounting base.
The base will be wall-mounted and the stacks will be bolted to the flanch.
The rivet straps and patches achieve the appeareance of old age
and wear and tear. Dimentions 21"x21"x30"

Re: The ICEBREAKER
The Smoke-Stacks are ready for paint. 15" diameter x 16' high.
Added some rivit plates to patch up some dents and holes.
We got the pipes from the scrap-yard. That's what they looked like
before sandblasting.
Banner fabrication is still in progress.

The fabrication of the banner / cross member is almost complete.
And with that, all the parts for the smoke stack assembly will be ready.
Ones everything is painted I'll post some pictures of the install procedures.
Dimentions: 178" wide x 46"high / Letters are 22" x 10"

Re: The ICEBREAKER
THE ICEBREAKER UPDATE
Our intention was to have the Smoke-Stacks mounted and in place on the boat this fall.
Unfortunately Bush?s Marina in Port Severn, Ontario, Canada had to switch into winter mode.
A lot of work is coming up in order to winterize the marina. All boats have to be pulled out of the water before it freezes. Oh ! Not all boats are lucky enough to escape the cold Canadian winter?. Not the ICEBREAKER
Keep checking in, as I will design and fabricate the Paddle-Wheel assembly this winter. You will be updated accordantly. The dimensions will be 8feet high x 12feet wide.
If you have any questions, just ask
Talk to you soon and have a safe winter.

Hi everybody,
We are back on the project. Next step is the Paddlewheel fabrication.
Some of the brackets are designed, programmed and ready for cutting.
The picture below shows the basic side view of the design.

Re: The ICEBREAKER
The Paddlewheel Brackets are finally done.
There are almost 200 brackets in total.
It will take more than 800 Leg bolts and carriage
bolds to complete the assembly of the wheel. The next step is the design and fabrication of the arms that connect
the boat with the wheel. The arms are also known as the "Pitman Arm"
Spring is almost here. Hopefully the Smokestacks are going up
sometime in April.
Come back for more..............
What are your thoughts of the project so far?

The End Points of the "Pitman Arm" are fabricated and tacked in place.
Now we'll finish the edges by a long falling fast welding.
And some Grinding.

Re: The ICEBREAKER
We are back on the project. The Smoke Stacks are not installed yet.
More important matters holding us back. But we'll get there eventually.
Today, we started the fabrication of the Paddle Wheel Axle.
The axle is 12 feed wide and we ruffed it in with a key-way shaft
so we have the option to turn the wheel with an electric motor.
Don't forget - The boat is on the water but it will always be tied up. It's just visual.

The Pitman Arm fabrication is complete.
Guess what.....summer is here and the Marina
is too busy to sidetrack. But don't worry.
It will be done eventually. Just hang in.
Enjoy the Summer. And stay save on Land or Water

Here is a close up of the Pitman Arm Receiver Mount.
We kept most welds and grinds in a "Ruff Look" so it
appears like shipyard work was necessary in order to
reinforce the old riveted components.

Re: The ICEBREAKER
Good news.
The installation of the Smokestacks and the Paddlewheel has begun.
Last week we fabricated a few Eye-brackets to carry the weight of the wheel assembly. Once again we added rivets to make it look like it was made in the past and reinforced in a shipyard to last just a little bit longer. Today, I've finished the Smoke Stack Supports. They will add stability, so strong winds cannot affect the tall assembly. The Ring is 15" in diameter. 1/2" Carriage Bolts are used for the connection. Even though it is all welded, there are no visible welds on the outside surface of the ring. Very soon, I will be able to show pictures of ready installed components.

Ok. The moment we've been waiting for has arrived.
For the first time, all the components are coming together.
It took countless hours of designing and fabricating.
The Smoke Stacks were fully painted and installed by the crew of
Bush's Marina in Port Severn, Ontario
The Paddlewheel installation is almost complete. More Pictures follow very soon.
