Black Iron Cutting
I have a guy that wants a a bunch of metal art pieces like the tattered flag cut from black iron. Anyone have any experience with cutting black iron? Do you use the same mild steel settings as a starting point? Will metal art cut well ? I could not find much info on cutting black iron.

Re: Black Iron Cutting
I dont think there is actually a "black iron" sheet material. I think its just referring to hot rolled low carbon steel.

and if your doing metal art, take 5-10ipm out may be a lil drossy but a slower cut for more detailed features is more important, u can always get rid of dross.

Re: Black Iron Cutting
Black iron will cut just as well as standard grade steels. Same speed, same specs, minimal dross. Actually maybe less dross as the surface scale is tough for the dross to try to adhere to (just as rust, mill scale and paint minimize dross formation). Jim Colt Hypertherm
