Small Wood Stove
Here is a project I am prototyping for my students to make in High School Metals classes. You can get three stoves from on 48 by 48 sheet of 1/8" steel. I am attaching pictures to show the layout and assembly of the stove so far. Let me know what you think.

Good looking project.
Your a good teacher going that extra mile to ensure the students are working on a practical worthwhile project they can make, use and keep for years and be proud of. For many years to come, every time they light that stove they will remember you and the start you gave them, well done.

Awesome project. You have designed a project that any student would love to make. They will cherish it their entire life. They may wind up passing it down to their children and maybe grandchildren. Heck, you may have designed a family heirloom. Job well done. I believe I will have to make one for myself.

That is a really useful project, good job. I am wondering about air control. I do not see a inlet air damper. I would probably but a small slide on the ash door. Regardless, good job.

Re: Small Wood Stove
wow can you stop by and teach me to weld like that , I need a grinder to make it look that good. I would add a 4" collar on top for double wall gas pipe and an adjustable air vent to clean out door. I guess I know one of my up coming projects for the huntin camp

Re: Small Wood Stove
I was inspired by your project " small wood stove ". I made some changes to your stove and wanted to share these to your thread.
I maintained all overall dimensions and door sizes of your original project.
I added leveling feet by welding 1/2" nuts into each corner.
I added a plate to the front of the stove that could be customized with initials or names.
I added an adjustable air intake between the doors.
I changed the expanded mesh to plasma cut profile and removed the angle iron mounts.
I changed the hinges to a plasma cut profile.
I "puzzle tabbed" a number of the parts to aid alignment during welding.
I added air convection tubes to maximize heat output.
I added radius corners to the doors to removed sharp corners.
If there is interest I can add these files to your already great project.

I would be interested in updated file. This is a great little project and a great example to the students of how you can customize an already great project and personalize it.

Re: Small Wood Stove
Great ideas for hunt camp. If thermosiphoning was added to it for water it would be gold.

Re: Small Wood Stove
I was going to build one of these years ago and the only thing I would add is a small window in front to see the fire glow at a glance. This way I would have an idea of when to add wood. Other than adding a heating grate on top for warming water and such. Addition ideas are actually endless.

Re: Small Wood Stove
Here are the parts for the second version. All parts 11 ga (.125") mild steel. The number of parts required are in the file name description. All the fasteners are 10-24 tpi carriage bolts 3/4" long. Don't forget the nuts. Two 8-32 tpi screws for the plaque. Also, I made the pipe connector out of 16 ga mild steel to make forming easier.
Thoughtful collaboration on a project always improves the final result. My version may not answer all questions, but hopefully will cause others to improve upon.
Again, great project by IFALLSWELDER....
