Merging a dxf file into a sign using inkscape

Post by Pandc »

Good evening, I found a really cool blown motor dxf file on here and I was trying to make a sign on Inkscape To put it in. Is there a specific step process of unionizing the two together that I’m missing? I’ve watched a couple of days worth of videos and took notes but obviously not enough. Here are my close but no cigar attempts.thanks.

Thank you very much for the tips! I have another question. When I select engine and ring and click path>union, do I need to use node editor so it cuts as one? or does path>union do all of those tedious steps for me? Thank you again!

You don't need to edit nodes to accomplish the union. Just select both and "Path, Union".

Nice David! Still haven't dropped my Corel for Inkscape yet but learning much from your posts and may break free of Corel at some point.

I'm often using a combination of CorelDraw and Inkscape. I particularly like the CorelDraw B-Spline trace tool, and prefer it over the Inkscape Bezier draw tool for some projects. Here is a recent project.

Disregard question . I got it

Another question. I’m trying to replicate the blue design. When I drag the motor into the blue circle, the motor is very faint. I know I can just download your file and cut it. But I need to learn to fish. Thanks for all of your help

Nice David. Corel does have some nice features and feels less cumbersome than Inkscape. Not sure I could handle using both at the same time :HaHa :HaHa
