Amperage and feedrate on 1/4 stainless steel

Post by PeytonEvosTS »

I’m trying to cut a piece of 1/4 stainless with a hypertherm xpr 170, not having the greatest luck with quality. Any recommendations?

What problems are you seeing with your cuts?

Holes are beveled in on the bottom of the plate and just not a good cut overall. Decent slag on the bottom as well. I’ve been trying to play with different amps and feedrate just having no luck.

Cut height and cut speed can have that affect. Cut some test holes the same size and lower your cut height. This topic shows the effect cut height can have when it comes to beveled edges https://www.plasmaspider.com/viewtopic. ... 02&t=30283

Also slowing the cut speed down by 50% or so for small holes can help. I would experiment on some scrap and find what works for your setup.

Okay will try that thank you, I’ve been testing holes and different amps bc my supervisor said the program doesn’t put the best cut quality even though that’s what the program is for. I am now going to test out the recommended amp and feedrate from the program itself and see what happens.

You will always have some slight bevel with plasma cut parts. Perhaps share some photos of some of your cut parts so we can see what you have. If you want perfect edges then consider having your parts cnc laser cut or cnc water jet cut.

Okay sounds good, I got it down barley bevel but a lot better cut. Raised the torch a bit and slowed down the feedrate.
