Proma THC 150 and Novosun NVEM v2 motion controller compatibility

Post by nikolakuzzz »

Hello guys,

My last breakout board died and since I'm in an urgent need of a new one, the only controller that i can get really fast is a NVEM V2 from Novosun, but I am not sure that I can connect the inputs from Proma THC 150 to it. Does any of you have any experience regarding this topic?

It should work just fine once you determine the wire location differences on the new breakout board Do you have a manual for the new board?

In Mach3 the software input pins are named for the Arc Ok, up, and down signal from the Proma. It looks like that BOB has 12 input pins so you will just need to connect the wires to those input on that board so the software knows where to look for them while in is operational. Also selecting the correct high or low trigger for each pin so the software will act as needed.

So I connected the 4 pins from proma to the boards Com, input 3, 4 ,5. Enabled them in Input Page, set to active low, enabled THC up down even when not in THC mode and this is the result i am getting. Any advice?

Ok I'm not sure about what is happening from the video. And not sure about the BOB you are using but the ones I used different pins were used to the THC input. The diagnostic page does show the signals working in the video so that indicates you did it correctly. It did look like they were very fast so maybe not enough time for things to move on the table is why no Z movement is seen. You many try changing the HYS setting to +15 which increases the sample range of the voltage in the test mode.
Are you able to move the Z axis up and down with the keyboard page up and down keys??
Or can you move it from the MDI page with a g1 Z2 for 50 If you using metric give the Z a longer distance like Z 20 = 20 MM.

I can move the z axis up and down manually yes, from what i've read on forums it seems like the board is not compatible with a THC, which is depressing, but oh well.

Yes I have seen that with other BOB boards, don't you wish the seller would say "Not for THC" so you don't waste your time or money. Some BOB will not except external axis move signals. This is why Proma makes a model that is a stand alone type, BOB signal for the Z go to the proma then to the driver. I personally don't like that type. It is the SD model, many have had problems with them.
