Awesome Plasma Table Sharpie Pen Holder ... FROM???

Post by Joe Jones »

I must apologize for my failing memory. I know I purchased this totally awesome pen holder from someone on Plasmaspider, but I cannot remember WHO made it and sold it to me. I also cannot remember what I paid for it. :Sad

My memory really IS that bad. I want to point other people to this person, so more of these can be sold! Respond here, so other people can also get the information I seem to have lost, and may also want to order one. I want to pass this along on various Facebook group posts, etc. This thing works great!

Here is one I got from the great Acourtjester. Note if you are using Command CNC use the Contour Operation in SHeetcam. So simple.

That is who it was! aCourtJester. I would like to refer him to others who are seeking a way to use their cnc tables for drawing and tracing functions.

It works great once I used the contour tool. It really saves on material on design changes or fit up changes. For bracketry and parts I used to cut out super thin junk I had and then would perform a fit up and then cut the real part out of the required material. I now skip this money wasting step.

You cut it out as a paper template to check for fit?

Yes. Right now paper/manila folders are cheaper than steel and alum. For now at least.

Get the brown hardboard (1/8" pegboard without the holes) from the big box stores. They are still cheap, and easy to cut for this fitting process.

Interested in how to setup and use the Contour tool in SheetCam.
I have a pen holder from someone on here, probably Tom, but never got it to work right.

Using the pen tools and planning in SheetCam is easy. You create a new tool with a plasma base, see attached image with info.
load in a drawing and select the contour tool in the planning section, use the no offset with no lead in/outs. Use a non-Plasma post processor. no need for touch off or plasma operations. move the pen to your start location drive the pen down touching the paper and about 0.050" more. Zero out the DROs and drive the Z up off the paper and hit run. pen will move to the start location on the drawing and move the pen down touching the paper with a small amount of pressure (from the addition down position and the spring pressure. It will draw on the paper whatever you have in the in the plan, as shown in the videos. Have fun

Because they do not have cnc plasma tables. They have cnc router tables, or the cnc blue diode lasers, or the CRICUT machines, or the embroidery machines, or any other machine that can use the capability of the Sharpie pen holder.

I agree with djreiswig. Tell them to join. Even if they don't do cnc plasma cutting, they must use some design software and there is a wealth of information here to share with them. Even if they are not a "contributing member", then can still read the text and send a pm to Tom to order.

I do not know who these people are. I have told them that I bought the pen holder from acourtjester on plasmaspider, and provided a link to this forum. I am not going to insist that they sign up, because it will raise red flags. I just thought he might have some generic means of communication that I could share.

Using the pen tools and planning in SheetCam is easy. You create a new tool with a plasma base, see attached image with info
Thanks Tom:
I created the Pen Tool, but the problem is that I don't have a contour option in the lower pane.

Another way of doing it that I found to be easy is that when you are selecting your operation, don’t select plasma. Select contour, then your default tool will be rotary tool. You don’t have to do anything else except zero your z axis to your pen holder compression.

That is because Plasma moves up from the surface for its operations, and Routing moves below for its operations. You can assign how far it moves down to produce the marking pressure. When I use the table for drag knife operations I produce a plasma tool so I can move just past the start/stop location (over cut)to insure the cut is complete.

I think you have to turn on the mill part of SheetCam to get those operations.

I don't have Contour as a selection anywhere in any pull down menu. I do know my Sheetcam was set up by Dan at LDR so I'm sure it is a custom setup.
Maybe the pen isn't possible?

I was having the same issues...
Click HELP, Setup Wizard, then select Rotary cutting then it will show up. I was uncluttering the panels a while ago and unchecked it and couldnt find it.. we here it is now :HaHa

On another note, i dont show any tools like Tom shows.
EDIT:
well, i didnt see tools because i hadnt created a rotary tool... made one for the EasyScriber and it showed up.
Hoping to try y'alls tips this weekend.
