Price CNC AVHC10 not acting right

Post by Burnart »

Hi there, I’ve been around a while but haven’t posted anything because I haven’t had any issues until now. I bought a Price CNC AVHC10 a while back but haven’t connected it until my second Proma crapped out. I have a Hyperthermia 45 on a DIY table running Mach3 via smooth-stepper with a C25 bob. I have read all the posts concerning the AVHC10 and couldn’t find the issue I was having.

When the THC is turned on in Mach3 the torch goes to the correct location, goes to pierce height then does nothing. When the same Goode is run with the THC turned off, the cut is perfect.

I have checked and rechecked the wiring and it is correct according to the manual. The voltage divider is working and the AVHC10 tests work.

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

I had a similar problem in that not all of the signals passed through the BOB to the computer. I could see them on the diagnostic page showing the Price unit was sending them but it did not respond when running a G-code.
My fix was to go back to win 7 and a parallel port BOB. win 10 or win 7 64 bit will not support a parallel printer port.

The exact reason why I rebuild my control box was to get rid of the parallel port and 32 bit Win7. Old computer went out and had a hard time finding 32 bit Win7 and parallel ports.

Me too but things did not work out, I am not saying I am completely correct but this is what I found that fixed my problem.
I looked at other BOB board but some did not fill the bill (not enough inputs) and the other thing is changing software. Many here did that for many reasons and it may be the way to go soon.

Any idea if Mach4 works with the AVHC10? Anyone here have experience with that combination?

Do you mean it pierces and then does not move for the cut? If so it sounds like Mach 3 isn't getting the ARC OK signal from the THC.

Ok, adjusted the arc OK range and that fixed the problem but it wasn’t moving the torch up or down. Didn’t have much time to dive into it this evening. I will do more test cuts and adjusting the next couple of evenings. This real job stuff gets in the way of my garage fun. Will give an update soon. Also, probably contributing factor to the issue was having my ground clamp on the aluminum cable drag tray where I moved it when loading the current sheet.
I think that changed the actual arc voltage that I cut the last sheet without using the THC.

I would post the name of you BOB board and see if any other member here is using it and has a THC attached to it. As I posted earlier that was what I found with the one I used. This one, not sure if it is the board itself or the plugin for Mach 3 (BL-UsbMach-v2.1).
