Post by noplacetosail »

Have a BIG 4' by 8' sign to cut on our plasmacam DHC2 with a hypertherm 45.
1/8" aluminum treadplate.
Would appreciate any advice

Treads up....as the PlasmaCam THC will climb over them.

45 amps, ,062 cut height, .12 pierce height, .1 second time to pierce, 220 inch per minute cut speed.

The edges will have a very fine fuzz on the bottom side that comes off very easily with a small file. Here is a pic of a sign I did on aluminum treadplate.

By the way I see you have a machine torch head instead of a hand held. Plasmacam told us to go with the hand held. Is the machine torch better?

It is easier to interface (no splicing of wires in the plasma) easier to square to the plate, and easier to change consumables.....easier to route the leads to the overhead boom. I am replacing my 45 in a few days with a Powermax85, also with a machine torch. I use the hand torch (plugs in with no tools) to cut up the skeleton of scrap metal.

Hey Jim:
I cant find all the setting for the .125 5052 alum sheet. I looked in the HT spec sheet for the Fine Tip setting but there is nothing for fine tip. I am running the HT 1250 with the T80 torch with FT consumables. I talked with Tech support today to see if they could help and they said to try the setting for steel and then speed up the ipm. I don't want to blow out a nother tip and electrode. I need to start cutting by Thur morning so if you could can you send me the setting for the machine control and the height control? I think what I have might be to slow and may not be right on the height for pierce or cutting. This is what I found. Cut speed-85 Time delay for pierce-0.5 Hight for pierce-0.12 Cutting height-0.079. Thanks' for all your imput.

Hypertherm never developed aluminum charts for the Fine cut parts. Tech service is correct...use the steel specs then adjust your speed to minimize dross. Make sure you use the 220404 deflector and spray some mig anti spatter spray on the deflector to help minimize spatter.

amps..40
Cut height .08"
Pierce height .16"
Pierce time .8 seconds
Cut speed 50 to 80 ipm

Experiment with speed to minimize bottom dross....faster is better. There will still be some fuzzy, easy to remove dross on soft aluminum alloys.

Hey Jim:
Hear is the numbers that I ended up with after all the samples that I cut for the 0.125 5052 Alum sheeting.
This is with the HT 1250 and the DHC2 AT 40 AMP Fine Tip cut at 40 Amp
The cut edge is a little on the rough side not nice and smooth and the cut angle is .10k off from top to bottom.
Do you think if I kick up the amp to 45-50 amp it will clean up the cut?

Cut speed 80 ipm.

Pierce Time I dropped down to .5 still a little long maybe I think I still could drop it 0.2 to 0.3.

Pierce Height stayed at .16 , I have a little blow back at that height maybe drop down to 0.12.

Cut Height ended up at 0.072.

After auto calibrate.

Arc V ended up at 0.802.

Z Shift 0.055.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks' again for your help and info.

Jim,
in regards to cutting 1/8" aluminum treadplate
could you possibly give me a "print screen" shot of your
machine control
height control
height control advanced
screens? I'm not convinced everything is right with my settings

thanks so much
