I just go to the text tool on the left and on the top is a drop down for Fonts. I use Rockwell bold for these. Then type in the NAME required. Adjust to fit the "blankornament". I adjust the size of what I need into the box. Object to Path. Then you can adjust each letter size such as the small letter " i " you have to get the top of the ' i ' to not fall out (using the node tool). I also drop the 'y' down past the box. Then you would do Path => Combine. I am not as good as acourtjester in explaining this. Sorry if I confused you.

If you are using Inkscape and want to add your own name to an original file this video will explain how to do that.

This is a really cute project. I am really new to this, and was going to try and follow your tutorial on inkscape, but I cannot seem to find the original ornament file to add my name to it. Can you help with a DXF file?
Thank you,
MAJ B

Grab the SVG for inkscape if you can. Save the blank ornament off. Then when adding the name open the blank ornament and after you are done with the names save it off as something else like the name you put in the box.

Searchman wrote: Tue Nov 17, 2020 7:15 pm I am looking for a post that was posted last year about this time of year that explained in a very simple way about how to add font to this ornament. I did print it out, but a Senior Moment kicked in and cannot locate it. Thanks
Im curious as well. I usually end up fiddling with it (inkscape) and I eventually get it to union but never remember what I did to get it to work. Seems all the youtube videos are for the older version of inscape.

Ok I'm going to rip all my hair out soon. Last night I had it figured out, did it several times, wrote down the steps, followed them to a T and tonight union-ing letters to a design is not working. So far, either nothing happens at all, or most of the design disappears. What exactly are the requirements for a "union" to properly work?

Just tried this step by step. It did nothing. I kept screwing around and finally got it. After ungrouping the text (that was already turned into a path) and the main image, it worked.
