attn: corel and/or inkscape users

Ok, I am trying to do something that should be pretty simple, or so I thought. All I want to do is take my dxf or pdf of the dxf image and color in the body of the artwork so our customers can see their "art sign" before we convert to G-code and cut it. Some customers have a hard time looking at the wireframe of the dxf and "see" their piece. How are you guys doing this? I downloaded bith inkscape and corel draw, but neither is working how I would like it to. I'm sure I am just doing it wrong. Any help appreciated.

I use Corel for showing customers what their sign will look like and have never had a problem or question from them about it. Post up what you got and Ill give you my opinion as to if I think Corel would help...

Are you changing the file back to a Corel draw file; try that. I use a program that fills in the .drw file but wont in the .dfx

I use corel 3x, click on the drawing then click arrange from the menu, then click on combine... click on the bucket from the tools menu on the left side of the screen, then click on which color you want from the right side... i actually use this feature to check my drawings because if it wont fill proper with color then something is wrong with the drawing... IMO

there's a dxf plugin for inkscape. it allows you to open dxf files. alternatively, you could just hatch the areas inside your cad program.

Any area you are trying to fill MUST be closed. Check for unclosed nodes, combine areas to join them, pick the item you want to fill then left click on the color you want to fill with. If it does not fill then you have an open area still.

Corel will also fill open curves.
1 Do one of the following:

? (Windows) Click Tools Options.
? (Mac OS) Click CorelDRAW 11 Preferences.

2 In the list of categories, double-click Document, and click General.

3 Enable the Fill open curves check box.
