Pm 65 ,85 on thin metal

Post by Sampson Jones »

Does the pm 65 and 85 cut thin material 16ga, 18 ga, 20 ga, etc . as well,as a pm 45 ? Is there a trade off ?

I have the PM 65 and can use the 45 consumables (and/or FineCut) and adjust the amperage down to 45 or below and I'm betting the cut is exactly the same. I can't speak for the 85 for sure but I know it uses the same torch and so I'd imagine it works the same way. I would say that there is no trade off, only increased capabilities at least up to the 85. I think once you go past that it takes a different torch that may not have the fine consumables available but I'll bet someone knows! :D

I use a PM105 and can cut 16 ga. all day long. I use the 45Amp Fine cut parts and have great success. The consumables for the PM 45 to 105 are all the same.

Hope that helps.

The Powermax65, 85 and 105 cut materials thinner than 10 gauge with better quality than the (older design torch) Powermax45. These systems use the Finecut consumables technology, and there are two sets of cut charts for the Finecuts in the operators manual, one for cnc machines that are stable at speeds above 150 ipm, and one for machines that need to run at 150 ipm or lower.

Eventually the Powermax45 will be upgraded with newer technology, although it is still the best selling plasma cutter on the planet! There are close to 100,000 of the Powermax45 systems in the field.

We have a PM 65 and have cut 26 and 28 gauge with excellent results.
