buffalo sculpture

Post by hacnwac »

Hi guys and gals. These are just some progress pics of a larger then life buffalo commission. Thanks goes to Bigcreek for the lead. The majority of the build is just drops and pieces of 14,16,and 18 ga from the cnc table to small or a pain to cut. The hair is cut on the table tho and there will probably end up with 5 or 6 different patterns. I think around 100 or more hours so far.

Wow.... unfreaking believable talk about talent. Are they going to naturally rust it or is paint in the future.

That is a beautiful piece and looks fantastic so far, do you plan to finish it or just let it rust. Craig

Thanks for the compliments. The customer (and myself) just want it to rust. The horns are stainless to keep from rusting and I was going to patina them a darker off black to give some contrast. There are a few more build pics on my facebook page.

That's sharp! I ran across a large collection of pieces like this outside of Phoenix several years ago. A guy in Mexico was making everything you could think of out of scrap rusty metal and selling them here. I bet you have a few hours in this.

That's the way to sculpt steel. Absolute genius. Way to pull off tedious precision.

Yes tnbndr the hair is cut on the table and then hand bent. You are right about an apprentice but I"m just a one man shop. Lucky for me I've built up my wrist muscles over the years with twist top refreshments :D
