I have usually been using HR sheet in my plasmacam, but I had to get some sheets of CRS the last time as the seller was out of HR.
Since using CRS it looks to me that the cuts seem a little better and sharper. Is it just my imagination or does CRS cut better?

This isn't the first time I've heard this. Others have said the same thing. Cold rolled cuts better.
Cold rolled costs more though.
I get scraps at a discont and end up paying less than HR steel though.

CR should be cheaper not more expensive since they do not have to reheat to roll it.
My prices here in Gary/Chicago area for CR are cheaper than HR.

All I cut is cold rolled 14 gage and 12 gage. It is a little more expensive but will save you a lot of time and work on clean-up. I am amazed at how well it cuts with very little warpage. Been cutting stainless steel lately and it cuts great also.

CR is more expensive here in eastern Canada, about $4.00 per 16g sheet more than HR.

CR steel is HR with the mill scale removed and rolled again to get a more precise product, therefore more price. If you try and bend CR rod in a hand bender it seems quite a bit stiffer than HR due to it being compacted by the second rolling. My 2 bits worth.

You're right. CR is a lot stronger than HR.OTHill wrote:CR steel is HR with the mill scale removed and rolled again to get a more precise product, therefore more price. If you try and bend CR rod in a hand bender it seems quite a bit stiffer than HR due to it being compacted by the second rolling. My 2 bits worth.
