Here is a simple background plaque I made for a friend to give to his boss. I cut out a harley silhouette and riveted the steel bike onto the aluminum
plaque. It exceeded my expectations. I used cold gun blue to finish the bike then clearcoated it. I have found that this finish is preferred by my restaurant
accounts for some reason. I made some sconces out of stainless steel and they did not like them (I thought they were beautiful!). The same sconce in mild steel with the gun blue finish was accepted readily!

When you say you use "Cold gun Blue", is that the same as blueing, like blueing gun parts. If so, what is the process that you use to achive this process. I have always been a fan of Copper Patina, and would like to expand my options of finishes to use.

Hello,
Yes, it is the cold blue you use for guns.
Grind, buff or finish the part however you want.
Clean with Acetone.
With a clean rag moistened with gun blue wipe the part with even strokes.
Do not allow gun blue to drop on the part, it makes a blot like an ink blot and is hard to remove.
After blueing is done apply a couple of coats of clear coat.
It actually is more of a brownish color, but looks really good.

Any hardware store Wal-Mart used to sell it, but I think they stopped. Pawn shop, Gun shop. It is Birchwood Casey's Perma blue or Gun blue.
