double lines after using dxf tool

Post by SpartanKen »

I am trying to load a drawing into sheetcam, using dxftool from CorelDraw 5, I am still getting double lines. Why is this?

Would increasing nodes or decreasing nodes in a drawing help prevent this? Or is it something else?

Getting ready to make my first cut tonight and I'd like to eliminate drawing issues first :-)

Not sure if it's something you have drawn or auto traced.

If it's drawn you may be getting double lines if you have it filled when you convert to dxf as it makes a line for the line and a line for the fill (even if your in wireframe the fill is there if it's filled, just hidden).
If it's an auto trace maybe you forgot to ungroup from the background after tracing.

I use X5 and I don't use dxf tool so not sure if that adds anything, I wouldn't have thought so.

Reducing nodes shouldn't make any difference but try selecting just one node and dragging it, that will reveal any duplicate lines underneath.

If all else fails there is a macro you can use apparently, I haven't used it but here is a link back to Marty's thread

Let us know how you get on.

I'm on X6 and if the object is filled, like with a color, then I get double lines on an export to .dxf.

that is a very common problem when first using dxf tools for some reason

there's so many ways to get double lines without knowing it

the most common is using convert-outline-to-object and weld/trim with keep-original checked

Hi Ken,

until you get that sorted out in cad, if you're ever in a hurry and you've got this problem while in Sheetcam, click on the Contour button, right click on one of the outlines, and select move to new layer. It might move one of the outlines to a completely separate layer within Sheetcam then just untick the layer you don't want.

Not the real answer but a temporary workaround if it works.

Generally Sheetcam will delete the double lines anyway.
