I had my torch snag a diamond and drag my sheet across the table (alum btw). So i cut it tread down. In one of my post about cutting alum diamond plate... seemed everyone thought i was nuts cutting down. Potatoe/Patatoe

I just boost my cutting amps a little - so when the torch gets to the diamond it will cut all the way thru.

Im on the prowl for a good used Hypertherm Plasma with hand torch.
PM me with details
Thanks

depends what way it goes up when finished because the underside will need a little more cleanup

How do you program for the mat thickness? Mat is .105 on the flat. .170 on the tread

I actually just cut aluminum diamond plate yesterday for a headache for an international truck with over 100 little squares to see through it. I kept everything the same but I slowed the speed from 190 ipm to 140 ipm, cut absolutely perfect. Only problem I had was the head hit the plate one time because of the warpage in the plate.

If you have a machine with a good height control (you will see it rise and drop rapidly on the igh and low spots) then the best cut quality on diamond plate / treadplate is with the bumps up, smooth side down. Machines with no height control or slow reacting height controls cut this material with bumps down....and a bit more cleanup of dross beads.
