85 nozzle on pm 65 torch?

Post by _Ogre »

i ended up with a 5 pack of hypertherm 85 amp consumables
any reason i can't use the 85 amp nozzle for cutting at 65 amps in on a pm 65?
i hate to toss them

I'm sure Jim Colt can provide the technical details, but I bet the 85 amp nozzles will change the arc's intensity to make a difference in the cut quality. Can you use them? I would probably try one just to see, but.....

Don't do it unless you want bad cuts. The orifice hole on a 85 consumable is larger and will give you a weaker plasma beam.

The orifice is larger on the 85 amp nozzles as compared to 65 amp. They will work, but slower cut speeds and more dross is likely.
