.step files

Post by BrianMick »

Does anyone out there use these? Is this a 3d format? Can they be converted to a dxf? what program do you use?
I have a customer that has a few and wants a quote on the parts but I can't read them. Any help or answers would be appreciated.

Quick Google search turned up this:

I have never dealt with them.

This is one of the file formats used in my 3D cad, so I'll guess you can't just use it for a flat pattern. The applicable face will have to be copied and converted to dxf.

If you can post the file I'll see if I can figure out how to do it.

kieth thanks for the offer but I have 90 some files that this would have to be done to. I have my customer and his design team working on it...I have asked them repeatedly to stop sending these files but it seems they must forget all the time.
ohh well I guess if they want to work twice as hard when they send me a file let em....i just figured there might be an easy way to do it myself and get quicker results.
