Re: PlasmaCAM Genesis Release
I was informed that drag chains can cause strain on the wiring, and the extended wire can act as an antenna for EMI interference. With the controller on the boom arm, the cables are shorter greatly reducing EMI interference. The table was running with the computer up to 80' away.

Re: PlasmaCAM Genesis Release
I have been running 20’ long main harness on mine using drag chains for several years with no issues. Anything is possible I suppose.1MORECUT wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 3:15 pm I was informed that drag chains can cause strain on the wiring, and the extended wire can act as an antenna for EMI interference. Re: PlasmaCAM Genesis Release
That sounds like a load of BS to me. I suspect they don't want to spend the time and expense on them knowing the machine will sell well regardless.1MORECUT wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 3:15 pm I was informed that drag chains can cause strain on the wiring, and the extended wire can act as an antenna for EMI interference. Re: PlasmaCAM Genesis Release
This will be a great opportunity for one of the Plasmacam users to come up with an add-on kit to convert to drag chains. Robert has already done this for his own table, perhaps he will develop a drag chain kit to add to his online Learn Plasmacam store.weldguy wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 10:33 amThat sounds like a load of BS to me. Re: PlasmaCAM Genesis Release
MAYBE PlasmaCam will decide to offer a "DHC2 to GENESIS" Conversion Kit. It would come with everything but the table legs and original grate slats. This would actually be SMART on their part, as they would both sell the new GENESIS machines to current DHC2 table owners, and greatly REDUCE the number of used DHC2 tables that would otherwise hit the market, and thus compete with GENESIS sales.
The people who convert their DHC2 tables into GENESIS machines would then have the old gantry and carriage which could easily be SOLD, or fabricated into a pipe cutting accessory on a sawhorse, or used to mount a router for a lathe type setup, or whatever. The old rails could also be sold to recover some of the cost of the new table. The old controllers would also be of value on the marketplace!
The people who convert their DHC2 to a GENESIS could sell their table frames and grate slats to people who want to convert a DHC2 into a 4x8 configuration. PlasmaCam would sell the Customizable Size Upgrades to all of them at $998.00 each ... Everybody wins!
Unfortunately, I do not believe a GoTorch version of the GENESIS is on the drawing table. However, a good fabricator ....

Re: PlasmaCAM Genesis Release
I think the Go Torch is going to disappear. PlasmaCam will probably sell out their remaining units, and it will become an albatross, since it cannot be converted to a GENISIS table via the Customizable Size Upgrade.
I could be wrong.

isn't the go torch designed to capture the lower end of the market where plasma am was unaffordable completing with some of the newer tables ..... so they would be daft to give up on this market share

I see no reason why they would not come out with a "Genesis" version of the GoTorch.robertspark wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 11:55 am isn't the go torch designed to capture the lower end of the market where plasma am was unaffordable completing with some of the newer tables ..... so they would be daft to give up on this market share

Re: PlasmaCAM Genesis Release
No. The Go Torch was designed to be a FIELD cnc machine. You place the steel onto saw horses, and place the Go Torch directly on top of the material, to cut out gussets and other components on the fly, at a job site. That is the original design intent for the Go Torch. It was specifically sold as a bare bones machine, with the intent to have DXF files of the various components one would normally cut out of a sheet of steel on a job site already on a disk or thumb drive. So it was sold with no design software, and only BASIC machine control.robertspark wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 11:55 am isn't the go torch designed to capture the lower end of the market where plasma am was unaffordable completing with some of the newer tables ..... so they would be daft to give up on this market share
The Go Torch would not be a good candidate for the Genesis level cnc machine. The gantry is completely different. The side rails would need to attach to a small frame, and the boom arm is not high enough to accommodate the NEW carriage and gantry.
They might continue to sell the Go Torch, but I seriously doubt it. I think the Go Torch is on its way out, and I SERIOUSLY doubt that they will ever apply the Genesis design to a Go Torch.
I also doubt there will be a Genesis 510 table either.
I could be wrong.

Re: PlasmaCAM Genesis Release
Here is a 60 WATT blue diode machine that is fully enclosed, with a 49"x96" work area and it is compatible with Lightburn software.
http://tyvok.com/
PlasmaCam had better pull a rabbit out of a hat or something, if they want to stay in the game.
Tyvok also offers lower wattage laser heads and an IR head for etching METAL. The machine can also run a small ROUTER. I am fairly certain that the precision of this machine will run circles around any PlasmaCam table with a laser accessory.
I pre-ordered one of these Tyvok machines, but it will be several months before they are shipped.
Honestly, I do not know how the Genesis table will do in this shaky economy. It has a lot of nice new features, but it may be a case of "Too little, too late."

Checked out the site Joe, doesn’t appear to be anything even remotely comparable to the Plasmacam table on their website. Can you post a link to what you pre-ordered? The pricing definitely seems reasonable that’s about the only advantage that I see if they were to get into plasma.

Re: PlasmaCAM Genesis Release
It uses Lightburn software. It can run a light duty router and an assortment of laser heads. I believe the accuracy would be better than the OLDER PlasmaCam tables because of the cam followers on the Plasmacam that roll over the chipped painted surfaces. As for the Genesis, I have no clue if it would be as steady and smooth as a cnc laser running on aluminum extrusion and glide rails.
The advantage of a laser over plasma is the ability to create the same designs in much smaller spaces, due to the very thin kerf width of a laser beam.
I will get one of these table when they are released, and go through the paces of testing it.

Re: PlasmaCAM Genesis Release
Area - This is a cnc 60W laser engraver cutter for engraving and cutting wood and other materials like cardboard, lexan, etc. It is not for cutting metal, although it can probably cut very thin aluminum foil type material. It says it will handle a full sheet of 4 x 8 plywood. They offer an additional spindle module that will take very small router bits, drills, etc. for precision routing and drilling - I did not see a price for the add-ons. They are offering the 60W version for $2014 plus shipping with an estimated ship date of March 2025.AREA wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2024 4:34 pm Checked out the site Joe, doesn’t appear to be anything even remotely comparable to the Plasmacam table on their website. An entry level 4 x 8 cnc plasma table like the Langmuir Crossfire XR is currently priced at $6495 plus shipping. This does not include a plasma cutter or air compressor. For a Plasmacam 4x4 you could probably double that price plus some.

Re: PlasmaCAM Genesis Release
Major downside of al those cheap lasers is "Fixed Focus" the oject has to be really flat and stay at the fixed 20mm length. They also distort the power by taking the base wattage (usually a 5 or 10watt solid state laser) and using the focused beam size to define the power in the cut.
Unless they have done some break though engineering, it has no height control so the target has to be ultra flat or the power per sqr inch is greatly less. A 60W laser is an engraver and will cut thin wood, paper and non metallic products.
Its not going to cut any kind of metal . Even BIG lasers (4 - 6kw) with auto focus don't perform well on aluminium compared to steel .
Cheap lasers are like cheap router tables: Lots around and not designed for production or much more than hobby usage.
All of those wonderful new features of hr the Genesis model have been available on other brands for years ,

Re: PlasmaCAM Genesis Release
Do you own a current model of a blue diode laser? Have you cut any plywood or other materials with one? These lasers have come a long way in a short period of time. The 60 watt laser is not an engraver. It will cut 3/4” plywood.

Re: PlasmaCAM Genesis Release
I'M likely getting a genesis table 48" x 96" I love Design Edge (all in 1) so this is the main reason though We need a bigger machine. Currently have dhc 48x 48. So many machines out there but the software all not my cup of tea after using Design Edge

Re: PlasmaCAM Genesis Release
Have you checked with Plasmacam to see if they offer the new Genesis table in a 48 x 96 configuration? If not, you might consider upgrading your DHC to DHC2 and expanding it from 4x4 to 4x8 size. You will need to purchase the Customizable size software upgrade ($998) along with some additional side rails, gear racks, etc. along with a longer wiring harness - possibly available from Robert Johnson. This conversion is well documented - in fact I am pretty sure that Doug (tinspark) converted his original GoTorch 2x2 to 4x8 and could most likely advise you on his conversion.

Re: PlasmaCAM Genesis Release
At some point, it is cheaper to buy a used Samson 510 table, and just add the $998.00 CSB software upgrade to both DesignEdge licenses. If you don't have the footprint for a 5x10 table, you have the option of combining the two tables, using the four foot gantry, and end frames, and 'Y axis' grate slats with the ten foot side rails and frame members, and center legs. A slight mod would be required to shorten the 510 center cross braces by 12 inches, but that is not difficult. Just take a slice out of the center and bolt or weld them back together. Touch up with red paint, or ???
By mixing things up, you would end up with a 4x10 table with a four foot gantry, and a 4x5 table with a five foot gantry. Sell the 4x5 table with the CSB upgrade to recover the costs of the conversion.
