Axis Steps Per calbrations

There is a video on YouTube showing how to calculate the Axis Steps Per short and sweat way. I typed it up and this is it, worked great for me. :Like
Steps per inch Calibrations


On the axis rail mark a starting point, Than tell that axis to move say 5”. Then measure how far it moved say 7.5”
the formula is 5 divided by 7.5 equals a percent value. This case .6666 so find the original steps per inch value in the software.
Multiply the original steps per inch value by that percent to get the new steps per inch value to enter in the software.
If it moved more then told you will get a less than 1 percent.
If it moved less then told you will get over 1 percent to multiply the original steps per inch
Move the axis a longer distance to get a better correction in the formula.

Here is a link to a calculator that does the math for you . You can skip the top part about the ratios and stuff . it just helps get you in the ballpark .The good old tap[e measure method is fast and the longer you send the axis out the more accurate your results.

Only thing to remember is BEFORE you go in and make any changes to the Steps per Unit, be sure to return the test axis back to the 0 (using G0 X0 or G0 Y0) first. That will send it back exactly to where yoou started . Then change the steps per and send it out with the new settings , \

Doing Z is a little harder . If you have a |123 block it easier. Measuring the z in the air is not easy without a block. If you do not have a 123 block use dial callipers and find a block of aluminium or hard material and measure it and use that number to calibrate it .
