I seem to remember someone posted a file to make grates for a table. Try searching using the box right under the title of this forum.

Are you talking about the slats for the water table?

Re: Crossfire pro grate schematics
What is the perception on this type of slat?
I am trying to figure out advantages/disadvantages.
I'm not sure it's for me.
My slats get completely destroyed and I have to replace them 3x a year.
The one job I do fairly often is 1/2" Ar 400 plate 5 pieces per plate 711 holes per piece.. I make from 9-12 pieces per job.
6399 holes per job.
Thoughts on advantages/disadvantages??

Re: Crossfire pro grate schematics
Robert Johnson recommends the flat type slats with an induced curve so that horizontal or vertical cuts don't happen to run the direction of the slat and in particular right on top of the slat down the length. I can see the benefit to this, and I think it depends on the amount of use the table sees. Something similar to these. Plus they are very easy to replace. I think they are usually 1/8" x 1 1/2" or 1/8" x 2" flat hot rolled stock. So no special processing or cutting necessary. This makes perfect sense to me.

Re: Crossfire pro grate schematics
My slats are curved 12 ga carbon steel but 4" deep.. Sort of burns up a pile of material to replace them especially at todays prices.
Uggghhhh...
I've taken slats out in the past to reduce hammering mine with the thick stuff.
Always looking for a better way.. I tried making 1/2 the table slats my table is 6' wide I tried 4' ones and it was a shit show.. wobbled like crazy LOL..
Plus the added support in the middle caught a bunch of drops..

Re: Crossfire pro grate schematics
The table we have at work has the pointed grates like the file that adbuch shared above. I don’t mind them. The obvious advantage is there’s not as much surface area touching the plate so less of the grating gets ruined. I have curved flat bar on my table at home and I feel that the grates get ruined faster with the flat curved grating. But the flat grating holds smaller parts better. Any small cuts at work fall down into the water table very easily because they don’t have the surface area to sit on. If you cut out a set of pointed grates next time you replace yours I don’t think you’ll be disappointed, it’s just a little different.

Re: Crossfire pro grate schematics
I used 1/8" by 3" flat bar, curved. I like it, Holds heavy plate steel no problem.

Re: Crossfire pro grate schematics
This is all great information about the pros and cons of "pointy" grates. I'm still on my first set of the Plasmacam pointy grates and I am happy with them. When smaller pieces fall thru, I've got a diamond mesh at the top of my water table to catch them. I usually use a magnetic stick to retrieve them as my water table is about 12" or so below the top of the grates.

Thanks for sharing your file. These should come in handy for the Crossfire Pro owners.SA Precision Cuts wrote: ↑Sun Sep 11, 2022 7:13 pm Try this one. I made this one and currently use the slats on my Crossfire Pro Table.
I've added the dxf as well.
