Somewhat Geo Spider Web
Here is a spider web I put together, size 21" x 21" with 1/2' threads. Somewhat more geometric than others I have seen. Hope you can use it.

Very nicely done! I wasn't sure what you meant by 1/2" threads - I was thinking about threaded bolts or rods. But now I understand.
Thanks for sharing with us.

TXBluegrass ...
I am just curious ...
Is this how you drew it, by trimming out one slice and making a polar array of 32?

Re: Somewhat Geo Spider Web
In any case, I think this is a much easier task for those fortunate enough to be using Design Edge - very powerful editing tool - which last time I checked can be purchased directly from Plasmacam as a stand-alone program for around $3k including advanced design. But still pretty expensive for the average Joe. I remember paying around $1800 for my Aspire license. I used VCarve Pro for several years and then decided to plunk down my hard earned cash for the upgrade to Aspire. I have never looked back.

I tried what Frank S. might try. I rotated a line from the mid grid point 45, 22.5, 11.25 degrees to get the proper spacing then used the bulge feature with equal spacing to do the rest.

I'd like to see a video of that! There is an easy way to draw this and keep everything symmetrical. I don't know about other design programs, but DesignEdge could lay this out in a matter of minutes.TXBluegrass wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 9:44 pm I tried what Frank S. might try. Re: Somewhat Geo Spider Web
Okay. I will find the time to make it for you. The design itself is a polar array of six shapes, centered on a 6" circle. The final design has a 1/4" offset added to the straight sides, to make the two outside webs the same thickness as the others.
Now ... do you want a video of his EXACT design? Because that would take longer, since I would have to measure the exact distances between the quadrants of each arch, etc. in order to duplicate his EXACT design.
But to make a web design LIKE THAT, which would be very similar, it would only take a few minutes.

Re: Somewhat Geo Spider Web
Although replication of the EXACT design is entirely possible, I will not waste my time spinning my wheels to entertain YOU by trying to exactly replicate a HAND DRAWN design in which no two measurements are identical. This is not a symmetrical design, David, and YOU KNOW THAT.
So I know you are salivating at the opportunity to drag my DXF file into your computer, and lay it over this design, tripping over yourself in order to point out the 187 places where MY nodes did not line up EXACTLY with his nodes in this design.
I can draw something visually close in a matter of minutes, perhaps close enough as to be difficult to discern the difference with the human eye. It is nothing more than a polar array of six shapes set at 11.25 degrees radial, with an exterior hand drawn border.

His design looks symmetrical to me, and certainly not "hand drawn". I have no interest in "dragging your dxf" over to compare with the original. So ok then, just draw something visually close. I was just interested to see your video showing you technique, as I expect some others might be as well. It's all about sharing and maybe we could learn a thing or two from your process. You said you could draw it up in a few minutes, and I want to learn from you, so go ahead and make the short video. If you have changed your mind, or are too busy with other things, then I completely understand.

Yes, I agree. It LOOKS symmetrical. It isn't.

Nice use of the array tool! You pattered yours after his using the circles, but now yours is symmetrical. Nice work.

Re: Somewhat Geo Spider Web
There is something to be said for the hand drawn piece. When things are TOO symmetrical, they take on a "MADE IN CHINA" appearance, with no clue that they were created by hand, so in may instances, the hand drawn, hand cut piece is more appealing. I really don't care if things are not perfect. But if they are "off," I want then to be visibly off, and not just subconsciously, irritatingly off. A hand drawn web that is Beetlejuice style is great. But if it looks like the design was supposed to be symmetrical and it isn't, that is just something I pick up on. Maybe it doesn't bother other people. I don't know.
A sign like this would drive me crazy, because I would immediately see the flaw!

What flaw Joe? I am trying hard to find one but the only thing I can kinda pick up on is the letters do not appear to be the same height.

Exactly. The letter "R" was scaled down just a bit. I have worked in the sign industry for many years, and this is like a poke in the eye to me. Here are some more examples...plasmanewbie wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 12:24 pm What flaw Joe? Can you find the errors? They really stand out to me. They are the "Once you see them, you cannot UN-see them" things.

Re: Somewhat Geo Spider Web
Sorry David. I took too many grumpy pills last night. Drama happening outside of this forum that was really grinding on me.
His design is hand drawn in that he probably made the curved web parts as an array and hand rotated them into position by eye, rather than a definite 11.25 degree polar array. The result is curves that start and end at different points around the circle because the center of the curves are not ALL aligned at the 5.625 degree marks. Still, it is a great design for a decorative "gingerbread" dressing on an old home, or to be used as a bookshelf support, etc.
