Duplicated Lines
Hi All,
So I'm new to the CNC plasma world and having some issues when converting my company logo. It has many duplicate lines, the question I have is do I edit out the duplicates so it looks right then run it through sheetcam for post process?

Re: Duplicated Lines
I don't know how your program traces things but Inkscape has a few different ones. One will do what I think your is doing and that is putting an inside and outside line for each line in the trace. Try changing the trace method that you use. Another thing when in the node tool I would highlight the lines I did not want and subtract them this only worked if they were completely separate. If you can separate and change the line color it helps doing that, to ID the ones you want to leave.
Edge detection is the one that makes 2 lines from one.

Re: Duplicated Lines
I see this occasionally with some of the drawings I convert - regardless if I am using Inkscape, LightBurn, or Design Edge. I just delete the duplicate lines and re-link.ruralfencer wrote: ↑Fri Sep 03, 2021 6:16 am Hi All,

Re: Duplicated Lines
Sorry should have been more specific. I traced jpeg image in inkscape them imported to QCad on my laptop. My plasma is running Inkscape, Punch Viacad, Sheetcam and Mach3. As i said above I'm new to inkscape so learning on the fly.

Re: Duplicated Lines
Here is an example of the "double lines" after auto tracing. I found this file on the internet and saved the image as jpeg.ruralfencer wrote: ↑Sat Sep 04, 2021 3:28 am Sorry should have been more specific. I imported to Inkscape and auto-traced (Path, Trace Bitmap). The trace is on the right side of the screen.
I saved from Inkscape as dxf and opened with Design Edge.
Here is a close-up of part of the drawing. You can clearly see the double lines. This is because it traced both the inside and outside of the outline of the rabbits.
It was easy enough to delete the extra lines and link/join to create closed paths. Here is what it looks like now.
From the image you provided, I think you are asking about this same scenario. It shouldn't matter what vector editing software you use to edit the dxf, the double lines should still show up, and it should be possible to edit them out.

Re: Duplicated Lines
Post your jpeg file here and I will take a look at it to see if I can lend more insight into how to fix it.

Re: Duplicated Lines
The reason this auto trace has the extra lines is because of the way the artwork is drawn. It was intended to be displayed as is, and not necessarily cut from a sheet of metal. One thing you can try is to adjust the brightness threshold when you trace bitmap. I reduced it to 3.50 for my "trace bitmap" operation.
Are you planning to do a layered sign, or a "positive" or "negative"?
The top of the barbed wire does not have enough contrast with the background to work well with an auto-trace. If I had to do it I would trace some of the barbed wire manually.

Re: Duplicated Lines
I would assume you would be doing it like this, where it would be cut from a single sheet of metal. This is the dxf file from the auto-trace (trace bitmap) in Inkscape. As is, the 3 large letters will fall out when cut - so they would need to be bridged to the surrounding material. For a layered sign, you could cut them separately and fasten to a backing piece. The small letters A, R, and O will need to be modified to "stencil" format so the centers don't fall out when cut.

Re: Duplicated Lines
Here is an example of doing it as a layered sign. You can see the lead-ins for the cut paths.
I added the stencil effect to the small letters so the centers won't fall out. I have included the dxf so you can take a look and maybe get some ideas about what you want to do.

Re: Duplicated Lines
thank you so much, i was planning on cutting the positive. I'm not too worried about the barb wire but what you have done is pretty much what I'm after. again thank you

Re: Duplicated Lines
Happy to help! Here is one you might consider the "positive" version.
