He may very well have retired from Hypertherm, but he is still active on some of the forums. He mentioned recently that he had upgraded from his Plasmacam table to one of the more professional (and expensive) brands. It looked like a really nice setup.

I would be interested to see that post. I don’t recall seeing him frame it in that way. Might be worth mentioning that he is now employed by that company as well….

Robert - I don't remember where I saw it. He did not frame it that way, and I was not "quoting" him. I went to the website of that company and to me the tables looked more heavy duty, were definitely more expensive, and looked more like what I would consider a "professional" grade of machine. This is not a "slur" on the Plasmacam or Samson tables, and is just my opinion. Obviously both brands of machines (Plasmacam/Sampson and Maverick - the brand of his new table) are found in professional settings doing production work.

We all miss seeing and working with Jim around the office, however he is still active on the forums as has been mentioned. He can usually be found responding to questions about Hypertherm products. While this won't be a direct replacement for his wisdom and advice if you have questions on here that require technical support and haven't gotten any input from the fantastic members of this group, i can forward your questions and information to our technical support team here in the office.

you / hypertherm I think would benefit from another brand ambassador as Jim did a great job in answering queries. it would probably help with sales in the long run as it always seemed to help to have Jim's pearls of wisdom, and it seems to have been missed / lost.

I know their is hypertherm technical support and I've asked a couple of questions over the years but sometimes the guidance on line to open debate is helpful to separate fact from opinion....

just a thought to consider maybe someone in house who may have a plasma / hypertherm passion as another brand ambassador to look in on these and other related forums as Jim did regularly from time to time.... it keeps your presence and support seen.

Years ago I called HP tech support for help and they just blew me off. I then contacted Jim and he gave me all the info I needed. To me that was invaluable.

While I totally agree with you about your point it's basically impossible to replace Jim Colt, He spent over 40 years at Hypertherm helping build the brand to what it is today. He worked in nearly all depts within the company which makes his experience and knowlege extremely vast. Jim started on the forums on his own helping people and was not part of his duties at the company. I can say if we do have that experience and the right person who can step in to help we would certainly look for that. For right now we're very lucky to have a large group of people here on the forum that can give help and guidance to those who need it. As always anyone who needs more help can reach out to our technical support team.
