Muratic acid bath containers

Post by BHSAGSHOP »

Pallet Containment Tray by New Pig, Catch Leaks & Drips, Plastic Tray, 28-Gal Sump Capacity, 51" L x 43" W x 4" H, Black, PAK112 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BUC24VA/re ... qAb108K9K1

I'm looking for options for muratic acid soak pans.

Anybody tried these for muratic acid baths?

Would it work?

I know it would need to have a cover, but for soaking large art pieces, I think it would be nice.

Tried it. The problem comes when you try to pour it back into whatever container you use to store the acid. I built one similar to the one shown and even put a pour spout on it...still a mess.

Thanks. That's the kind of thing I wanted to know. I have a loading dock on my shop, so I could put a drain in it to put it back in my storage container while the container is lower on the ground.

I've been planning on building something similar to what I made before with the exception it would stand up on end. The parts to be dipped would be suspended and it'd be easy to empty. But I just haven't got around to it yet.

I have been struggling with the best way to use an acid bath. I like the way it leave parts ideal for finishing
plus it take 98% of the sharp edges off. For me it reduced finish prep time dramatically. I am still new, here
is a sample I worked up and powder coated. The final has more curves, look nicer and I used glitter adhesive back vinyl to
bring out the agency letters. The below tank might be just the ticket for preping these shields

Here is the tank I found. I did not find many vendors, price does not seem that bad. I did find a
larger tank, DST-2, but no price popped up. What I do not know- would Muratic Acid be included in the "Chemical Resistant" category.

These are a few of the listed features:
* Chemical Resistant * Guaranteed Leak Proof * Includes ON/OFF Spigot
* Includes Cover/ Lid * Includes Drip Tray * Includes Hold Down Bar

No need to "fish around" in muriatic acid. Just attach a thin wire to whatever you're dipping. Been doing it for years.

I bought one of these but you would need to replace the brass drain port I found one on Amazon.

I cover it when in use and drain it when not, I store the acid solution in 5 Gal plastic jugs. You can get these free at any place that fries things (micky Ds, Hardies, burger joints), they toss them after they pour the oil in the fryers.

I use a plastic hot water heater catch pan $15, it already came with plastic plumbing fittings, I just have it placed on top of some old tires to keep it elevated higher than a bucket. Very simple to use. For larger parts, I have some plastic storage containers that I bought from costco for $8. I just leave the acid in it. Much cheaper than other options I had seen, plus at the prices I am paying for them they can easily be viewed as a consumable if they dont last as long as the purpose built containers.
