Here's a Great Dane sign that my wife had me throw together for her sister for Christmas. I hope to cut it this afternoon, but everything looks good to me so far. The dxf has the sign blank. If it doesn't open correctly, please let me know - the last file I shared ended up having a bunch of missing lines, so I played around with my export settings until this opened correctly in Inkscape.

What software are you working with?
I opened it in Corel and I would not have been able to add a name before joining all the broken segments that make up the design.
Once I joined all the segments I had to be sure the rectangle opening where the name was to be was "cut" out of the main design and not just a rectangle on top of the design if that makes sense to you.
With that rectangle being an "opening" in the main design I was able to add text and weld it to the main design.
