Re: Message from Ben De Lap
Hello all, just wanted to give an update on my boy. The source of his infection and continued internal bleeding have been found. Both stem from his injured pancreas and the drain tube inserted. An abscess has formed there, complicating things a bit. Yesterday he had a simple procedure to correct these issues but things did not go as planned. Apparently the anesthesia used was not appropriate for someone paralyzed and in his condition. As the doctors explained it the drug did not disperse throughout his body. It remained entirely in his upper body, was too much for his heart...something about potassium...and his heart stopped. They had to perform CPR. Thank God they got him back. His back surgery intended to stabilize him with titanium rods and screws is still on hold as he moves from General ICU back to Trauma ICU to be more closely monitored.
We thank you all for the kindness, prayers, love and support received. We are strong and will persevere. After all, it's totally in God's hands. His room and bath are coming along tremendously. I had intended this room to be my study, complete with fireplace...LOL. I'm just thankful we have the room to make him a nice place of his own.
Once more I thank you all. This is truly a wonderful community.

Heck Ben, talk about "being in the wars". I think you have had your fair share of bad misfortune. Let's pray and hope things improve from here in in.

Re: Message from Ben De Lap
Hello everyone.
I apologize for the long absence and delay on an update, just really having a hard time talking with people etc. Not sure why but even this small message feels like an insurmountable task. Enough about me. Jonathan was finally cleared to have his back operation last week as all infection is gone. All thankfully went well. Two titanium rods held by 12 screws and a little fusing of the vertebrae should provide the stability he needs. He was in a LOT of pain after his surgery and I must admit he took it like a champ. If only I could be so tough. Shortly he will be admitted to the rehab facility as an inpatient and the hard work will begin. Nothing written in stone but I should have my boy home in about three weeks. We're ready for him as all the donations have been put to good use fixing up his room, complete with his own bathroom/shower done in wet room fashion. None of this would have been possible without you guys as the number of PlasmaSpider members who have contributed is absolutely astounding. We are genuinely touched by the love and generosity shared by so many, don't think I'll ever find a way to properly thank everyone. The prayers are being heard and answered. Please keep Jon in your prayers. Once again we thank you all.
