Re: router attachment
Yes, I have one. I bought an OTS attachment for my DeWalt. It works well. I'll update my post with the details shortly

Re: router attachment
The router set up that plasmacam offers has worked out really well so far. It is really easy to attach and has a suction hose that connects directly to my shopvac for sawdust collection (this is a huge +, given how routing can produce a ton of sawdust..fast!).
A router on the plasmacam has been a really sweet addition to the system that has helped increased my capabilities and offerings. Definitely a bonus if you are into wood work or prototyping with plastics.
Good luck brother,
JAG

Re: router attachment
You can do a lot with a PlamaCam table and a router, and the proper software upgrades. I use both a DeWalt 611 router and a Bosch 2.25 HP router.

Re: router attachment
You can lay a sheet of MDF over the grate, and use screws with fender washers to pinch down the sides of your work piece. you must make sure your router bit will NOT come in contact with the metal screws or washers though.Rockenjvdesign wrote:Yes you can I got mine set up now I just need to figure out how to get my router set up so it has a little more travel up and down and how to clamp my wood down can't go under it cuz of my water table

Re: router attachment
Currently, the table only has a total of two inches of Z-axis travel. If you use up 1.75" with yor material and spoil board, and try to get .25" of rapid travel height there is no more room left to use. We will talk in a while. I can help you figure things out.

Re: router attachment
I just added router capability to mine. I bought the router mount off of ebay for $69. A seller out of California. It was a perfect fit for my Porter Cable 892. The 892 has a variable speed and really helped dialing things in. I made my own mounting plate for attaching it to the Z. I have plenty of Z travel so I just laid a piece of 3/4 MDF over the slats and use screws to hold the board I am cutting. I have not tried anything fancy but it is working great. I very highly extremely and strongly recommend some type of dust extraction. The seller offered a dust kit for the mount for an additional charge but I wanted to make my own. Did I mention getting some sort of dust extraction.

Re: router attachment
The router attachment is a definitely an attachment that is an awesome additional to the plasmacam. I've been able to make things happen with it that I previously would have had to previously outsource at a premium (cost).
Plasmacam's 3d software along with the router makes stuff that you wouldn't imagine possible. It is a great set up for use on plastic materials as well. With the right imagination you can have phenomenal results with a variety of materials.
Thanks Joe for posting some really great info. I've really enjoyed the info that you've posted along with your pics and vids.
Keep it up man!

Re: router attachment
The possibilities are truly endless. If you have a little knowhow, you can adapt the plasmacam machine to incorporate almost any tool imaginable. Some things take more patience than others if it is not offered already, but the plasmacam system and software can bring some pretty sweet results for a number of different things. It makes me wish I had some more time to explore some of the other things (besides metal cutting and wood routing) that I've seen others do on their systems.

Re: router attachment
You rally need DesignEdge to run a router. Also, the 3D upgrade will give you far more ability to route with DesignEdge than you can do without the upgrade. You gotta pay, to play!Binderman01 wrote:What are you guys drawing in to work with a router? I dont see how 3.11 could do this?

Re: router attachment
All you need is basic height control so 3.11 software will work for 2D routing.

Re: router attachment
My machine has both plasma and router
The router is actually a 4kw spindle
The THC is mounted on the Z axis. So to swap I remove the plate with the spindle and attach the plate with the THC
It takes a 15 mins to change over
Once the heads are swapped to router mode I drain the water table and remove the slats. The VAC table drops in place of the slats
The Plasma and router functions have separate controllers (cc-m3 for plasma and richauto for router)

Re: router attachment
The Video Manual, Chapter 9 contains information about the router attachment. 3D artwork is probably best done with a program such as Vectric VCarve Pro or Aspire. You can create tool paths and post process to create G-Code, then import the G-Code file into Design Edge to cut your part.
