Family Infinity Sign

Post by Hilsmat1 »

Hey everyone. A customer sent this picture to me, and I'm basically done trying. I'm using Fusion and the process of tracing lines is killing me. To be honest, I'd much rather spend my energy cutting and finishing pieces than try to convert from a picture. Definitely happy to pay to have this drawn up. Thanks for any help.

Matt - Fusion 360 would not be my first choice for tracing this file. If you open your image with Paint.net and adjust to black/white and also adjust the contrast and save as jpeg, then you can import to Inkscape for auto tracing (Path, Trace Bitmap). Once you have done your auto trace in Inkscape, then manually delete unwanted nodes and smooth to clean up the curves. Thanks to Rokcrler for recently showing me this technique.

Here are some of the steps you can follow.

David

Matt - there a many similar files available for sale here. Perhaps you can find one close to what you are after and save yourself some work learning a new program, although these skills may come in handy later with some of your other projects.

Here is what it would look like when cut as a negative into an oval shape.

Great tutorial to show your tool bag needs more than one tool/method/technique to complete a project. Sometime more than one software package can be helpful too. Thinking outside the box works again. :Like :Like

David, that looks great! I hear you about learning new and different programs, but I’m in the middle of trying to start up my business. New THC, plasma cutter, just built a powder coating booth, new powder coating system, applied for my business license, it’s been a lot lately! If I don’t take you up, I might grab one from here. Thank you for your time and help!

Thanks Rokcrler! I also used the Make Selected Segments Smooth tool and it seemed to work quite well.

Matt - you are quite welcome! Your finished cut looks great. That 16 ga. worked well for this project.
