bike badge jpeg to dxf stl or svg help

good evening ive been given a task by a friend to try produce a few items for him, first to plasma out the emblem but also to then 3d print it to replace his lost badge off the motorcycle, unfortunately i only have 2 photos of the badge in different colours.
if you look on the picture with the Red R you can see the gold lettering is slightly raised by 1mm from the black background, the gold on the R is 2mm raised from the black and the red inside the R is 1mm from the black if that makes sense?

Depending on the size to be cut, the gold outline around the R will be super thin.
Here's my take on it.
It'll have to be a 3 layer with the red R at the top, or 2 with different paint/powered

I think this one requires a manual trace as opposed to auto trace. There is a slight problem doing this since there is some parallax introduced from your photo of what I assume is a decal. Here is what I have come up with using Inkscape to manually trace.

I think that Rokcrler will make a nice video showing you the actual steps he used. I will be curious to see if he started with an auto trace or manually traced your photo. You have not said what the overall size of the part is. Once you have specified this and decided on the vector file you wish to use, I will show you how to use Fusion 360 to create a solid model for 3D printing.

The other option would be to mount a gold paint pen to the carriage and DRAW the gold band around the red R. That would make it a two layer piece.

Is this the image you used for the svg you provided above? OK - I did an auto trace and answered my own question. This one could be edited to more closely match the corners and sides to the original image you have provided, and then combine with a trace of the original decal image shown in the first post. I had searched for a similar image, but could not find one.

For something super clean and accurate, I would consider creating the zeros as objects where the corner radii could all be matched automatically, then align and distribute to get the horizontal spacing equal. And probably creating the R from scratch as well to assure symmetry. It all depends on how accurate the OP wants or needs. For plasma cutting at a smaller size for display, it may not matter much. But for 3D printing a replacement emblem, I would think it should be as accurate as possible to match the existing item.

Here is how I did the image:
1. Import the jpeg
2. Trace bitmap, multiple scans, colors, remove background
3. Ungroup (ctrl, shift, G)
4. Delete green items
5. Drag black item down and break apart (ctrl, shift, K)
6. Union (Ctrl + +)
7. Select gold numbers and letter
8. Break apart (ctrl, shift, K)
9. Select the numbers and combine (ctrl K)
10. Select the gold R, move to bottom (End Button)
11. Select part inside the R, hold shift and select gold R, with both selected, Difference ((ctrl - -)
12. Select gold numbers and gold R and Union (ctrl + +)
13. Select black object and gold objects and align center and horizontal
14. Select Blue R and change color to Red
15. Now you have 3 objects: Black background, gold numbers and R, and red R

As David posted above, you'll have to manipulate some of the corners on the zeros to match.

Here is what the solid model would look like using the manual trace svg I posted previously. Fusion 360 seems to do better importing svg files as opposed to dxf files. I would need the actual dimensions of the part in order to edit the solid model and produce the final stl file for 3D printing.

I seem to recall a post where Tom showed creating masks cut from adhesive backed vinyl using a drag knife on his table. This method could come in handy for masking the letter "R" if it is to be painted after cnc plasma cut for a layered piece.

Here is an improved version of my original. I used Rokcrler's internet image to work with. I created the zeros as objects (rectangles with rounded corners) and matched the size to the image. Once the first rectangle is created, it can be duplicated to create 3 identical "zeros". I used the Align & Distribute tool for equal spacing between the zeros and to make them centered vertically. Same for the number 1. Then manually traced the R and outside border. Using the control key "Ctrl" when tracing using the Bezier drawing tool will keep the lines either vertical or horizontal.

Using a drag knife to cut vinyl is one way. another would be 3-D printing the parts to make a layered Badge. I would print a backer then the 1000, the "R" base and the the "R" top outline. Both os Davids STL images give a visual of how that would appear. Either a dual nozzle 3-D printer could be used. or there is a way to pause the print to change colors while printing for the layered look. I did that for a clock face project.
Another method is use the vinyl cutting for masking Aluminum to etch the design with Ferric Chloride (I used Muriatic acid and Hydrogen Peroxide mix)
