Help with making file

Post by thegerm »

I have been trying to trace this car to make in to a svg or DXF to cut for someone. I'd be willing to pay someone to do it or to help me out.
I'm using inkscape and I'm finding I'm not the greatest at tracing lol.
Thanks for the help.

This is how your trace translates into a DXF file (so far)

It looks like you are making good progress. What are you specific questions about this project as far as Inkscape goes?

Is there a way to smooth some of the areas out?

What do mean by "smooth"? Are you wanting to round some of the corners, or?

Take a look at this video, Steve explains how to use the different functions of smoothing and adjusting nodes for clean lines https://youtu.be/vOLJXvMkeTM

Youre on the right path with your trace... keep at it..the more you work at it the easier it becomes

Thanks for directing me to Steve's video it helped a lot. I didn't know you could move around the nodes easily once they were drawn. Smoothing to me meant getting rounded corners. Here's where I'm at after watching the video.

Looks good! I would consider closing the paths for the openings on the front bumper so it stands out more when cut.

There is also a minor problem area under the passenger side outside mirror. See the close-ups below. This will not likely impact your cut, but it is a good idea to get in the habit of taking care of these sorts of things so they don't come back to bite you with future projects.

Thanks!! Wasn't sure how to add the firebird symbol and still be able to cut it. He only wants it 18" wide.

I don't think it would need to be exact. Just the basic shape of the outer portion.

I was thinking something like this. The hood emblem is close to the same size as your license plate letters/numbers. Let me know what you think.
