Wheelin for Warriors Jeep Firepit

Post by Moe4x4 »

I can't believe I am making this my first post here. I'm new to plasma cutting but I have been working with a vinyl cutter for a while. I am building a fire pit for a charity raffle and am struggling to get the logo onto it. I'm struggling with how to make it work right. I will be cutting it out of 11 gauge steel on an eagle plasma table. The top most one that I have is about the size that I would like to get.

I have tried some of the tricks that I have found on here but still just can't wrap my head around this one.

Thanks In Advance for the help.

TJ

Are you looking for a single layer of steel or do you want layered? If it is a single layer then you have to bridge at least once across every line so things don't drop out.

I'll play around with it, I am sure there are better and faster people on the site but I like to challenge myself.

Jim I appreciate it. single layer. I'm thinking of putting it on the roof of the fire pit so it will act like a grill instead of the tire tread grill pattern. I tried Bridging it but couldn't figure out a good way to make it look good. I'm usually pretty good at visualizing stuff and how it will cut but can't wrap my head around this one.

It is not clear to me which one of your designs you want as your finished file. For the upper one in your svg, this is what it looks like (as is) when cut into a sheet of material. If the letters were converted to "stencil" format so the centers of the A, O, R, etc. don't fall out, then you would just need to work on the scene below (jeep, mountains, etc). I think this is very "doable" with a little time and effort.

David, what program did you use to do that. That makes it easier for me to see also. And could work with that. Jim helped me out also. I really appreciate your help.

I'm guessing that's DesignEdge. He seems to have a bunch of PlasmaCam tables.

I used Plasmacam Design Edge for the file above. I normally use a mix of paint.net, inkscape, and Design Edge for the files I work on. Is the file I showed above the format you are looking for?

Here it is with the letters converted to stencil and a few other mods. See if this is something you can use, if you don't already have one you like.

I really appreciate it. I'm hoping to get it cut this week. but with all the other projects in the shop i will see what happens.
Thank you both again. I will try and remember to post up the final cut and built version of it for the raffle.

I am going to this same event and also have a donation I want to do that uses this logo. I tried downloading it and opening it but the file has tons of over lapping lines. Any help in getting a simplified dxf version of it or help on how to clean it up?

What software are you attempting to open the file with? I just opened the dxf posted above with Design Edge and No Overlaps or Intersections. I have attached it again below for your convenience.

It's a pretty large file (2.31 Mb) so it is very possible that your older computer has insufficient memory or some other problem. The file could possibly be simplified (by deleting some of the detail).

This one just might work for you. It still has all the details, but the file size is now only around 780 KB.

Let me know if you are able to open this one. It is not necessary to open it with Viacad. Just load the dxf into your Sheetcam (or equivalent) and create the cut paths and start cutting.

You should be able to open the dxf in LightBurn or your favorite vector editor. Or you could convert the dxf to svg format and edit with Inkscape.
Or - post your flag dxf file and let us know where you want it placed in your flag.
