Converting to Release 13 format using QCad.

Post by topkote » Thu Jun 03, 2021 8:35 pm

So I am a contributing member now and downloaded the free DXF files that are given upon joining. I get the following message when I try to open any of the files both in Inkscape and Fusion 360.

36 ENTITIES of type POLYLINE encountered and ignored. Please try to convert to Release 13 format using QCad.

What do I need to do to open these?

Thanks,

Mike H.

Inkscape does not open dxf files. Fusion 360 will import dxf files. Upload one of your free dxf files and I will take a look.

For Inkscape users who cannot open dxf just go to https://www.dxfconverter.org/ and convert the dxf to svg and it will open right up. I verified this with your uploaded dxf.

For Fusion 360 users you can just insert dxf option shown in the insert drop down menu to get the dxf design in your Fusion workspace. Fusion isn't good for artistic type work but awesome for mechanical type drawings. I would use Inkscape for art and Fusion for mech.

It opened fine with TurboCad, you will find not all software work nicely with each other. There are different versions of DXF format that are saved, this has been talked about here a few times. Many use different software packages to find another way to open files then save them to move into your favorite software package to used and modify if needed. Inkscape will open some DXF files but the size is tiny and unusable, again it seems to be a mismatch of the software. :Sad

I opened your DXF with both Design Edge and BricsCAD and it appears to be fine. In both cases I opened as AutoCAD Rel. 14.
