Anyway to import a dxf, and have it say how many pierces, how many inches to cut etc? for those of us that don't use sheetcam

I have just 'looked' inside a DXF and my immediate reaction was no way! :D :D
It's a meaningless bunch of codes and numbers, naturally it will make sense to someone who develops CAM apps but thats not me i'm afraid.
Sorry.

Not sure if this helps anyone but some/most CAD programs if you select an object you can do a properties report on it, which usually gives the length. If you use a CAD program and create polyline objects this is usually pretty simple.
Window entire drawing and it should report how many polylines/objects you have = number of pierces.
Window individual objects and check for the length propery = inches to cut ( may have to convert from feet/inches.)

To save the hassle of emailing etc, I have put a download page on my blog site here http://davekearley.co.uk/downloads/

I will also post up any future updates there, when updating it is best to choose the .exe download and drop it into the folder as this saves the hassle of doing a full install each time, its only a small program and has no ties to other files.

Thanks

Anyway, I have a new version now and if any of those out there that tried it want a new copy please let me know and i'll email it off.

Please let me know if you already have the app as the upgrade is then simply dropping the new app in place of the old one, if you have never had it then i'll send an installer package instead.

It's free still but naturally you can make a donation, details are in the help tab ;) ;)

Would love to have the app also. If it functions correctly, I will donate to the cause and provide feedback towards the product.

Maybe you should edit your first post on page one and add your note posted above. Maybe some will take notice.

Just posted an update on my site here http://davekearley.co.uk/downloads/

It now creates "projects" which are various parts files that together form one job, this saves loading each part file separately.

To use it, simply create or load your parts files, tick the "Part of a project" check box on each part, then save the project. To reload the project just click "Load Project" and find the file you saved before.

Saves a bit of messing about with multi-part quotes.

Hi Dave,

Downloaded it and I've followed the instructions to create the report. It saves the new report in the new folder, but when I open it up it does not recognise any of the parameters. It only gives me @JobName@ and everything is 0 apart from quantity which is 1. So far the most expesive job quote is $2.19.

Any suggestions as to what I've done wrong with the program?

I thought that might be issue ;)

The location for the sheet cam report file should be something like

C:\program files\sheetcam TNG\languages\en\HTML\Reports

thats where my sheet cam loos for it.

In Sheetcam, go to job report, and in the template drop-down it should say Plasma Estimator V3, run that report and save it , that is the one to load into the app//

Hi again Dave,

I went back into the program and tried to find the drop down where it selects the Plasma Estimator V3 option. There isn't anywhere that I can see.

On my machine, I got to File/Job Report which brings up a window "Estimate" and gives me options to change the Pierce time and rapid speed. The Template drop down only allows me to have Full, Jet Report and Summary and then there is the OK and Cancel buttons. It seem like I'm missing a key component of what makes the Plasma Estimator V3 work. I'd love to have the program working because I think its a brilliant idea. Especially for when I'm just starting out.

Cheers,

Ben

Hi

the place where you see "Full, Jet Report, Summary" should show "Full, Jet Report, Plasma Estimator V3 & Summary"

This indicates that the report was not created in the correct place thats all.

Do a "search" on your pc for a folder called "Plasma estimator V3" it should have ONE file in it called "Report.htm"

Then you need to move this folder to the path I showed in the last post - this is where the reports live PRESUMING of course you have Sheetcam TNG in English setup.

Then it should all work - this highlights the issues of software developers in that they have to test it on different machines etc, beta testing, I don't have that luxury and as it's free I can only learn from those that try it out I'm afraid. I'm sure we will get there in the end :D :D

That folder must reside in the correct place though or sheet cam won't find it easily.

Dave,

Under your expert tutelage, it works! Brilliant! I have successfully worked out the program. Going to make up some more cut files and see how the pricing goes tomorrow.

My Plasma Estimator V3 folder does not contain that report file. Is it something that I can create or is it a template of some sort.

HI

I forgot to mention there should be TWO folders called "Plasma Estimator V3" - one with the app in it and one here "C:\program files\sheetcam TNG\languages\en\HTML\Reports\Plasma Estimator V3" or somewhere like that.

if you try the "import from sheet cam" option and you do not have the correct report template, the app should ask if you want it to create it for you, answer yes, point it to the correct location in sheet cam (as above), save it and then run the job report from sheetcam using that layout, it will then allow you to import the data using the report just saved.

Sounds long process but once working, it takes seconds.

Ok, that indicates that it has not been created yet.

Have you tried importing a SC report, any report?

If no then go to SC and run a summary report on any job file. Save that report to your desktop or somewhere. Go the app and choose "import from SC..." then import that saved file.

It should warn you that the report was not created with the correct template, and then ask if you want to create it, say yes, save the report in the same folder you just indicated.

Then go back to SC, go to job report, in the drop down box there should now be a Plasma estimator option - choose this and run the report then save it.

Load that report into the app and all should be well :D :D

All works as stated except it doesn't ask to create it, it just states it was created wrong and when I click ok it closes the message. See Pic

Ah, this tells me that you have been asked the question, the profile has been created just not in the correct place :D

If you do a search for "Plasma Estimator V3" you should find TWO folders, the one containing a single file called "Report.htm" must be moved to the correct sheet cam location shown earlier - it should then all play along ;)

That message tells me you have not created it yet, when you save it, it must go in the folder shown earlier way down in the sheet cam folders.

I have updated the app to let it attempt to find the correct target for the report template, might be worth trying that if still having trouble. To trigger the install of the report again, simply delete the file called "Sheetcam.txt" in the estimator folder - this simply tells the app to run the install again.

Updated version is on my site, thanks all.
