Is a standard table saw blade considered mild steel???

Post by wishiwastorching »

I want to plasma cnc a table saw blade. Are standard blades mild steel or do I need to cut them differently? Any good settings for a hypertherm 45?
Thanks!

No, mild steel (A-36) is really soft compared to a saw blade. If you did not want to fool with heat treating, try AR400 or AR500 and cut with a water table or use a pump sprayer and wet it while cutting to minimize the heat affected zone. If you want to try heat treating, try an air hardening steel or maybe even an oil quench steel. You can get fair results with some practice "field hardening" with a torch, magnet and good eye.

Really, a saw blade (ready made) is not too bad a deal when you consider all that goes into it. But the challenge sometimes gets the best of us LOL

Saw blades will generally cut very well right at the mild steel settings in your Powermax45 manual.
