Possible bad batch of hypertherm electrodes?

Post by oldschoolmopars »

Just made the switch to hypertherm 85. Last night i swapped out a electrode to see if anything with cut quality would improve and the new box I had got from the supply house had burned up within 1 cut. Tossed in anther and the same deal. All the ones i have used are the same part number too, but the bottom denote under the part number is different. 43920 EY and 43820 EY, both had the same part number of 220842. The 43820 EY has a almost steel or tungsten core in the center it looks like. So what gives?

My guess is non-genuine parts. I was told when I bought my TD A120 to always use the genuine electrode but it was OK to use aftermarket tips and shields

Ok here are images of the ones I have ordered from a dealer in the US, I have not had any problems with any of them
the part number is the same HT220842 (45 to 105 amp units per the manual) the smaller number is maybe a lot number 22920 EY.
The other one I have is the copper plus HT 220777 and the lot number is much smaller numbering.
Your last image looks like the center is missing. You may have ones from Won Fo Plasma limited one shot specials :Wow

I still have the hypertherm package they came in from the hypertherm dealer. I highly doubt they are China knock offs

Your best bet would probably be to take them back to your local Hypertherm dealer for exchange.

Your picture shows no hafnium in the core of one of the electrodes. That's no good! If thats the way you bought them they are definitely defective!
