Looking for some advice on a ice cream cone.

Post by JeepGuy »

Making a sign for the local ice cream place. I used the design they gave me (old sign they had when opened I guess) it will be 2 layers, the ice cream cone will be its own. I don't want to paint it , been playing with texture but I'm really new at it. Any suggestions?

Neat sign.
Are all 3 pictures of the same cone? Is the difference just the lighting, because they look different. I like the one in the second picture.
Are you just going to clear coat the sign?

Yes, they are all the same one just held at different angles. Yes, automotive clear just incase it makes it way outside.

Nice looking, you may look at hammer tone paint or the type that will wrinkle up with texture. They also make that in Powder coating too.
It looks like you sand blasted it and some flap disc action too already. Put it back on the customer for paint or clear :HaHa

I agree with Tom here. I personally have used the hammered finish spray paint with great success. But is seems that it is temperature sensitive as far as how much actual "hammered" texture is achieved. I use the Rustoleum brand, but others may work well also. But yes - the customer may be the one to make the final decision after you have shown them some different options.

In the past I have also used Krylon satin clear coat (spray can) on some items. But if it is going to live out of doors and exposed to sunlight and the elements, then the satin clear won't last very long. There may also be a satin clear powder coat that would work well for you.

I have real good results with Rustoleum hammer paint but to have the heavy hammered effect I have to put the paint on heavy. Then I put automotive clear coat on it because it doesn't take long for it to dull down if it's exposed to the elements.
