Powder Coating chrome rims

Post by wghughes7 »

I have a set of 22 inch chrome rims. How would I take off the chrome? I have a blast cabinet with black diamond media but I do not want to mess up the rims since they are aluminum.

If the chrome is not chipping just do a light media blast for etch, if the chrome is chipping then they need dechromed which I heard costs about as much as having something chromed.

Many years ago I was flushing the potable water tank in my camper with a diluted bleach solution. Some of the bleach solution dripped onto my chrome bumper, and took the chrome off. I have no idea why it took the chrome off, or what it might do to the under lying metal, but you might give that a try.
