Rust vs Rust F/X?

Question for you folks. What's the difference between rust, and Rust F/X patina?

I've just started doing some metal artwork with a rust finish... by using either muriatic acid and water or using hydrogen peroxide to get a good rust finish. Then I'd rinse it off, let it dry, and clear-coat with Rustoleum rattlecan (I know, I know.... it's shit).

Everyone on here seems to use the Rust F/X patina. It seems to do the same thing (although possibly better). Is it not a real rust?
