Post by blrose88 »

Ok you did not use the "union" function under path. If you first go under path and break apart the whole drawing so they are separate items. Click on the Node tool so you see nodes when looking at item parts when clicked on a part. Click on the first part of the B then hold the shift key down and then upper section (outside line) then under path click on "union". this will remove the short line between the 2 parts and weld them together as shown in the image. Repete with other sections of the drawing. I see Inkscape has change things you can not click on one part of the letters hold the shift key down and click on other parts and the upper outside line and then click on "UNION" to weld them together. You can see the red line of the parts that have been welded together. I will redo the leters to remove the stencil breaks in them. :Like

Tom - I was wondering about that. It would be much easier and quicker if they could all be welded at once.

Yes it seems Inkscape had changed the Union function somewhat as before it was highlighting 2 items by holding down the shift key. When I did it for him I clicked on all I wanted to weld together. Ok I just tried to weld all at once and it worked fine, Thanks for asking, we learn together. :Like :Like
I did not include the 2 center items but all the rest.

Thanks for that explanation! I tried the same thing and it seemed to work, but when I switched back from outline view to regular view I could not see the details in the upper and lower parts of the drawing. But perhaps that is another issue.

Tom - this is what it looks like in regular view.
mine looked like this.jpg
I saved as dxf and opened with DE, and it looks fine. So perhaps it is a setting in Inkscape.
David
but it opened fine with DE.jpg

I do not use the outline view ( you can lose it sometimes) I use the fill and stroke, click on the fill X it goes blank then click on stroke color and the resize the stoke if needed. If the drawing is very large you need to increase the stoke size to see it. I use about 0.005 for DXF file for cutting to keep the overall size dimensions close.

Tom - thanks for that! I don't use Inkscape enough that I am very familiar with all of the functions. But I do like to work in outline mode when I use it for node editing. I will have to try your method with the fill and stroke when I get a chance.
