color selection for different layers

Post by acourtjester »

Here is something I just found that helps with layering in Inkscape that helps for setting up contours for cutting in SheetCam.
high lighting an item and changing the color makes it a different layer, here is the way to keep all similar items to have the same color (layer).
After selecting the first item and assigning a color (layer) copy the color code from the stroke color box at the lower right. Then for all other items you want on the same layer, high light it and the paste the color code in the box. now in SheetCam all those items (layer) will be separate and be on different contours for cutting. :D

Well explained Tom how to use that feature, I sort of half looked at it not so long ago.
Is it not easier just to do it in sheetcam though? at least you get to give the layer a name that means something

I have used the SheetCam method many time, just a way to do it while you are drawing the project before saving it. Both work well.
AS you draw things you can use the paste to ID the layer yo want to use. In SheetCam I use the un-check method so each item goes away as I select them to be sure I get them all, then re-click to put them back in the image when done.

have fun
