draw a circle in inkscape

How do I make a circle in inkscape. I click on the circle in the tool bar and I left click and drag but I get a dotted rectangle with two small squares and a small circle and that's it no circle. What am I missing?

Not sure about inkscape, but in Corel you just drag the circle like you mentioned. If you need a perfect circle, you can hold down the "Ctrl" key while you draw and it makes the object exactly proportional (perfect circle or square). Once drawn, you need to select the pick tool to move it around. Another way is to draw the circle and then use the measurement boxes on the top menu to make it perfectly even.

Usually Corel and Inkscape are very similar to each other in drawing.

I'm still not getting it on inkscape. I get the dotted rectangle like I said previously, but no visible circle inside.I can move the rectangle around and change the size but I don't see a circle. Could it be there but have no color so its not visible?

yes or the stroke is to thin needs to be at least .005" to see.

I think acourtjester is correct. If you hit shift+ctrl+F it will bring up the fill and stroke menu. From there make sure fill or stroke is turned on then check stroke width and color to make sure its not white.
