Keeping a consistent width?

Hey guys,

Thanks again for all your valuable info....

I have this part that I'm drawing up the will be a truck suspension piece. The customer gave me the generic "triangle" dimensions that the end result needed to be, and I had to pretty much come up with the rest.

The main part that's really stumping me, is how do I be sure to keep the "frame" (space between inner triangle shape and outer triangle shape) at a consistent 1" space?

I started with straight triangle lines that were 1" apart, then I adjust the nodes of the outer triangle to give them the shape that I wanted. So when I adjust the nodes of the inner triangle, it was basically a guessing game for me until they looked right.

Any tips or trick on how YOU would go about drawing this part??

Not sure what program you are using, but in Corel Draw, you would use the Contour tool. You can contour a part either outside or inside (what you would want to do in this drawing). You just set the size of the contour and the steps (1 step) and hit apply, it will automatically draw the inside line for you duplicating the outside line exactly. Then, just break the contour apart (making two objects, one inside and one outside), then "trim" the inside piece out of the outside one.

If I get time, I will do it up for you. Should only take a minute or so once the original part is drawn.

I use Inkscape for drawing. I'll look into a contour option...

...and I appreciate you taking the time to draw up the part!
