Huawei Smart Cut-2200

Post by ronthomp »

I recently acquired a 2'x2' plasma table from the original purchaser who never put it together. This is similar to a Langmuir Crossfire. It has a Starfire controller, a torch height controller, a water tray and an Huawei HiCut-80 plasma cutter.
I am a CNC machinist with experience in many control systems, but I am new to CNC plasma systems. While I have made parts on this table, the controller has a "glitch" in that it works in metric, but if I switch the display to inches, it won't accept a feed rate over 4 IPM. It does work in metric. I am looking for a firmware upgrade that hopefully will fix it. The manufacturer was good enough to send me the firmware they have, but it's the same version and has the same issue. I am looking for any Starfire firmware to try on this machine. The current version is 4.2.2-1.2.7. This controller has a single DB connector on the back. I have seen others with multiple connectors. I am especially interested in talking to other owners of this machine. Thanks

Out of curiosity I located the manual for this controller but was unable to find anything that may help. There is some instruction in there to switch to english but obviously you have already done that. Was hoping there might be a dip switch somewhere that needed to be switched for english units. Sorry I couldn't help.

That looks like a common China controller module, you may try connecting with some milling or router type CNC blogs to see if they are using the same controller and can help you out. example for the controller https://www.amazon.com/CNC-Controller/s ... Controller

Or you may end up just using the metric units. Perhaps you can draw your parts in separate cad program in inch units, and then save/convert from inches to metric for import to your controller. Inkscape is one that comes to mind.

Is there a system menu that has a maximum speed setting in it? This looks similar to the Baileigh plasma controller
I do agree with the above, it’s not that hard to run in metric. You could even write your metric settings in your book next to your inches per minute feed rates.

There is! I looked at it when in metric, but I don't think I looked at it when in inches. I'll look at that on Monday. Thanks everyone!

Thanks! This seems to have been my issue. I switched to inches and the max speed was set to 100, but it's still in mm. I changed it to 2500 and it appears to be working. I'll know for sure after I actually cut something. Thanks again!
