Torchmate AVHC problems

Post by ssderick »

Hi ya'll
I spent 2 hours on the phone with TM support (TD sent me a new A80 the other would not cut above 80 amps) getting set up again. Up and running cutting 1/2' a t80 and 100 amps. Great. I took a break, had a celebratory BEER. Hour later put a new piece of 14 guage on the table and BOOM  , my height controller quit going down. dont make any since it goes to pierce point does not go down ans starts program or it goes down a little bit then rapids up and wont stop, I have to turn it off to keep it from blowing up. I went through steup and configuration but cannot find problem. even tried diff programs with cut off (dry run) but nothing. I am new to this. :?:

TD suppport is closed till Tues (d..n holidays). I was planning on cutting all weekend(wife and kids gone).

Any help would be greatly appreciated cause right shut down till Tues 9am.

Thanks I love this site!!

When you reinstalled the replacement plasma......did you by chance reverse the polarity on the connections for the DTHC? That will give you the exact symptoms you describe.

And.....this is Jim from Hypertherm on a Holiday weekend helping you out with your Thermal Dynamics unit!

Thanks Jim
No the polarity is right. it was working when i got off the phone with tech support. Then put a new piece of 1/2 on table and this problem started.

Switched to 14g this morning, cut 3 pieces and then it went to sh_t again. works with AVHC on auto sometimes and sometimes only works on manual. Then it might go down to about 1/2" above plate and fires, does not even touch plate to get pierce stand off. Doing all kinds of weird stuff. I AM LOST???? Got a mind to send this TD back and get a Hypertherm, seems like that is what everybody her uses. Oh well I have 2 TD cutmaster 50 in my shop that are over 12 years old that's why I went with TD. If my forklift was here I might throw the whole thing in the scrap bin!!!!

Been at it since 9am today and got about 1 hours worth of cutting (terrible)

As you can see it is after 11pm already and I'm still in the shop.

Oh well the beers cold!!
