Burning Up Z Axis Ground Wire~HELP

Post by LNWelding »

So, a couple of days ago our ground wire on our z axis motor started smoking.
Burned up all of the plastic around the wire.
We still had some left at both ends so we saldered a new wire that had a fuse, hoping
it would blow the fuse before creating any more damage. Worked for about 20 minutes of cutting.
Then we had a torch hitting material message.
I cleaned the torch, initialized and came back to cut and same thing happened.
So we're down to about 1/8" of wire left! Could try the fuse wire again but thought I'd ask around first.

Has this happened to anyone else?

WHY did this happen? What is causing my ground wire to catch on fire!?
We did call PlasmaCam yesterday and they thought it could be because of our ground clamp for our Plamacutter.
We put a bolted our clamp and made sure it was on a clean spot on the grate.
Then ran an additional clamp to the actual metal itself just to be safe.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Does anyone know where we could possibly get this fixed as opposed to buying a new $250.00 motor just because
the wire is bad. PLEASE HELP

Thank you,
Samantha

To get the best answer for this you should go directly to PlasmaCam's tech service department. If there is enough current flowing on a ground lead to melt the wire...you have a serious miswiring or component short problem somewhere in your system...it certainly is not normal on a PlasmaCam to have this issue!
